Winter OutdoorMaternity Portrait Session Oxfordshire

Updated: Mar 25

Who says that you cannot have some beautiful portraits done in Winter?

Yes, Winter in England can be awful - wind, rain, early evenings, mist... But the cold winter season also has some gorgeous moments in store and Winter sun against morning mist is one of them. I had recently had a beautiful brave parents to be book me for an outdoor maternity photoshoot - here's how it went.

The day started quite cloudy, but luckily it was dry so we embraced the grey, windy weather and went with it. Halfway through the session however, the beautifully soft Winter sun started peeking behind the bare branches of trees and it created some gorgeously magical lighting which I immediately had to take advantage of.

Capturing Connection

When it comes to outdoor maternity portraits, for me it is all about connection and beautiful lighting. I love letting my clients be themselves, only gently guiding them into a pose and sparking emotions by using prompts. My aim is to capture the tender anticipation of parents to be welcoming their precious bundle of joy, rather than awkward poses and cheesy forced smiles.

My job as a photographer isn't just to take the photo, but it is to ease my clients to feel confident and comfortable with me and my camera. Some people are natural in front of the camera; others - myself included - are not and feel out of place in front of a camera. That's why I have had to learn over the years how to read body language and learn some techniques how to get my parents-to-be to relax and build mutual trust so they feel comfortable with me. I was so lucky with these two we have immediately clicked and they were absolutely amazing at following direction and weren't shy to share some of their beautiful intimate moments on front of the camera.

We strolled through the woods to variety of beautiful locations.

Here are some of my favourites from this outdoor maternity photo session in the beautiful Oxfordshire outdoors.

The parents to be were absolute troopers, bracing the cold and wind while looking absolutely gorgeous. The family dog also joined us - and he was such an absolute little star. He looks very proud indeed to be promoted to a big brother soon! See for yourself:

How about you? Would you consider Winter outdoor portrait session?
