For many parents, it can be incredibly hard in the first few days - after all you're getting used to a completely new way of living, working out all the tricks and running on low sleep!
Did I pack enough nappies? Are the bottles and dummies sterilised? Have I packed the wipes and enough outfits? Where is his/her favourite muslin? What if it will be too warm/cold? Do I have enough spare outfits? All these thoughts (and probably way more thoughts) can make what should be an exciting and relaxing experience slightly less... relaxing.
And just as you finally pack the car, get yourself ready, your little one wakes up and their feed is due - and you can start all over again. Does this sound familiar?
That's why from the beginning of my photography journey, I decided I will be offering in home newborn sessions. Newborn parents - and it doesn't matter if you are a first time parent or a seasoned veteran parent - are under so much pressure and I definitely did not want to add to it even more with the stress of getting ready to go to an unknown environment of a studio, not sure what to take with them, how things will go... and so I decided that instead wouldn't it be great to offer a luxury photography service of a mobile studio, where I bring my studio to your own home!
You can relax on the sofa, maybe even have a little much needed nap, as I photograph your precious little one, knowing your baby is in safe, comfortable environment of their own home with everything needed being handy and ready to rock'n'roll.
This is especially convenient for c-section parents or parents whose recovery may not be straight forward and may take a little bit longer to feel themselves again - this means you can stay safe and comfortable in your own home, not having to drive sometimes quite a far away to a photography studio. You also get the privacy to change or feed comfortably, creating lovely and relaxed environment for you and your baby.
Did your baby spit up some milk on you? No need to worry if you have packed a spare outfit because you can simply nip out to your closet and get changed, without any worries.
This service is also great if you have any older sibling/s as they can play with their favourite toys, have lunch or a snack, or even go for their afternoon nap after their photos are taken, easing the pressure off the parents furthermore.
I bring all my professional lighting and backdrop set ups with me, a portable heater, baby shusher and other necessities to create the correct environment for a newborn session, as well as variety of props, wraps and accessories, so you will still get the same level of professional photography service, but with the convenience of it being held in your own home.
It also allows for more personalisation to your session. If you are not much into posing yourself, but still want some classic newborn portraits, you may wish to opt in for a hybrid style newborn session (the family part of the session being taken in lifestyle documentary photo journalistic way, while newborn portraits being taken in the classic posed newborn style).
Another in home alternative is a full lifestyle newborn session which is particularly popular with families who prefer candid, natural portraits rather than classical posed portraits. These are intimate sessions, capturing your bond and the realities of first few days/weeks with a new baby.
