Find the best newborn photographer Oxfordshire

When choosing someone to photograph this incredibly special, fleeting chapter of your life, understandably you want the best. The newborn bubble is so incredibly special, you want to remember this time of your life with a positive experiences.

Here are few tips how to book the perfect newborn photographer for you!

1 Photographer's style

When choosing and booking the perfect photographer for you, you need to decide what kind of photoshoot are you looking for. Are you looking for a classic, posed studio portraits, or are relaxed, natural, photojournalistic, lifestyle photos more your jam?

This is very individual as each family has different style. With studio portraits you'll get those formal, timeless portraits, while with lifestyle it will freeze the newborn bubble in time for you to remember. Think about your style and what you want from your session to help you decide which style is the best for you.

My own style is lifestyle, so I focus on capturing the intimate newborn bubble in a natural, heartwarming way. You can learn more about my newborn photoshoots here.

If studio style is your jam, there are some amazing studio posed photographers in Oxfordshire who are fabulous - in Bicester for example my friend Sarah Plater Photography.

2 Studio or at home?

Another thing you need to decide on is if you want the session to take place in a studio, or in the comfort of your own home. Each has pro's and con's, and it is entirely up to you which you feel more comfortable with.

The convenience of at-home lifestyle sessions can be appealing to some families, especially during this vulnerable time in your life which the newborn bubble undoubtedly is, while some prefer to venture out into a studio. Read why you might want to consider lifestyle at home session here.

3 Reputation & experience, insurance...

Read reviews, do your research and go through the photographer's website and portfolio before you decide to entrust someone with your newborn photo memories.

Professional photographers will have a website with their portfolio, and will be more than happy to send you an example gallery upon request, so you can get an idea of what to expect from your full gallery.

Don't forget that most photographers just show the best of the best on their social media, so if you are unsure, ask to see a full gallery. Some photographers blog about their sessions, where you can get better idea of what your session and final gallery will look like. If you'd like to checkout my blog, you can do so here.

Reviews are a good indicator of photographer's reputation and experience. Places like google reviews, Facebook reviews, or even word of mouth will help you decide who to go with.

Also ensure your photographer is a professional, having professional insurance and relevant training and experience. This is extremely important especially in newborn photography.

4 Investment

How much are you prepare to invest in your photos? Are you looking for digital images, or wall art? Albums? Prints? Choose a photographer that offers packages suited to you, or enquire with a photographer you like if they do offer these products.

Photographer's experience is often reflected in price, therefore budgeting for your newborn photography is a good idea.

Some photographers, myself included, offer payment plans to suit each family. This might be a deciding factor too. Ask the photographers you've shortlisted if they do, it might help you decide who to go with.

The best way to find your perfect photographer is to do your research, decide which style you like and check photographer's portfolio and reviews, and shortlist your favourite photographers from there.

  2. Where does the session take place?

  3. What is their availability?

  4. If you're undecided, ask to see an example gallery.

  5. Ask about the price and if there are any specific products, enquire about them.
