When to book your maternity photoshoot - Oxfordshire photographer

One question I get asked often as a Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire maternity, newborn & family photographer is when is the best time to book your pregnancy photoshoot. Read below what is the best time to book your maternity photoshoot in Oxfordshire.

When should my maternity photoshoot take place?

The simple answer to that question is: ideally your maternity photoshoot should take place some time between 30 and 36 weeks of your pregnancy. Why? Because during this time your belly will be at its best and prominent, but it will still allow time before you reach full term so you won't feel so uncomfortable.

What to consider before picking a date for your session?

Try to avoid scheduling your pregnancy photoshoot close to your due date as the closer you are to the end of your pregnancy, the more uncomfortable you may feel. Another thing to consider is the fact that babies are not the best at keeping to the schedule and the arrival of your little one might come before his or her planned due date - you don't want to miss out on your pregnancy photoshoot just because they arrived earlier than expected, so plan your photoshoot well in advance.

The 30-36 week mark is just a suggestion, remember no two pregnancies are a like and if you are for example expecting multiples or are a higher risk pregnancy, this can affect your due date and therefore allow plenty of time for your session.

When should I book my maternity photographer?

So now you know when to have your maternity photoshoot, but did you know that many photographers fill up their diaries months in advnace? The longer you leave it the higher the chance your preferred photographer will be unavailable on the specific time frame you need for your session. Maternity photography is fairly time sensitive, and so booking well in advance is always strongly recommended. I do try to accommodate as many expectant parents as I can but it is not always a guarantee I will have a free spot, so if you are thinking about booking, please ensure you book in advance so we can pick you the best slot and create memories you will treasure forever.

I would recommend to book your pregnancy photoshoot as early as possible, ideally at the beginning of your 2nd trimester. This will allow us to plan your session and book you for the date so your pregnancy is at its best for maternity portraits. It will allow enough time to plan and pick locations and outfits, and to feel empowered and prepared for your session without rushing.

Maternity & Newborn Session Combo?

If you'd like me as your newborn photographer as well as your maternity photographer, let's book your due date in while you're booking your maternity shoot. This will allow me to secure your due date in my diary, allowing us to capture those first newborn days and details perfectly as soon as little one is born. I also offer a baby plan membership for those who want the first year from pregnancy to 1st birthday photographed.
