I simply love cake smashes - what a better way to celebrate this important milestone in your baby's life than with a cake full of belly! I previously photographed Emma for her half birthday photos when she was only 6 months old - and she has grown SO MUCH during these 6 months it is amazing!
Her lovely mummy got in touch with me prior to her shoot, saying they are planning a swan themed birthday party, and to check if we could incorporate this theme into Emma's cake smash. I usually keep my cake smashes very minimalistic, with main focus being on the baby, but I LOVE trying new things and so was super excited when it came to planning Emma's session.
Little did I know what amazing prop mum will bring to the shoot...
Me and Emma's mum went backwards and forwards to make this lovely set up come to life & create memories which they can treasure for a lifetime. We agreed on pinks, creams and peachy tones for the colour scheme and on a balloon garland, which is both timeless and with added floral and feather details, it provided a beautiful feminine touch to this swan themed cake smash.
Emma's mum also brought some lovely swans which she has handpicked for Emma's party. They completed the look perfectly.
Before each cake smash session I ensure to take some birthday portraits to start with - before the cake gets everywhere! This is a great time to bring out gorgeous outfits, heirloom pieces, favourite toys - anything that you would like to be captured as a 1st birthday milestone! Emma's mummy and daddy brought this absolutely AMAZING big swan rocker which Emma absolutely loved and brought out some gorgeous smiles. Emma showed off how she can stand up and walk, shared some lovely smiles and simply looked adorable in her swan dress.
Then it was time to bring out the cake!
Emma was one of the best smashers I have met. Some babies can be a little wary when it comes to smashing a cake, but Emma had no problem with it - after all her mummy and daddy are avid bakers and celebrated many of Emma's milestones with a cake. The aftermath of the smash - cake absolutely everywhere, sticky hands and feet, happy sugar rushed nearly 1year old with belly full of cake and ready for the bubble bath!
After the session, Emma's mummy shared a lovely message with me: "Thank you so much once again. We love the photos so much!"
