From bump to newborn - Baby M's newborn portrait session: Oxfordshire newborn photography

Updated: Sep 19, 2019

When I first met baby M, she was still in her mummy's belly - her beautiful and sweet mummy Emma contacted me when she was expecting baby M to treat herself to a maternity photo session with me before her baby daughter makes her big appearance.

We discussed some ideas for the maternity session and Emma mentioned she would like to capture some studio styled portraits of her and her baby bump, and also some natural outdoor portraits. The first part of their session we focused on the studio styled portraits and in the second half we headed to a nearby park where we captured some beautiful, natural outdoor portraits of the expecting parents.

Working with Emma and her husband was fantastic. They are both fun loving, outgoing people and we basically laughed through the entire 2hour photo session. We did couple of outfit and pose changes and Emma was simply natural and just amazing at following my direction.

During indoors maternity sessions I love to work with fabrics such as tulle or organza. They add that extra bit of softness and perfectly compliment the femininity which comes with pregnancy. They are also light and comfortable and very flattering to expecting mummy's bodies.

Emma looked simply breathtaking and definitely had the pregnancy glow! They say that expecting a girl can steal some beauty from their mamas but this absolutely wasn't Emma's case - she was glowing throughout her maternity session!

Her husband joined us for a couple of portraits both indoors and outdoors. I know posing for portraits isn't exactly men's favourite hobby but Emma's husband was an absolute super-trooper and stepped in for some portraits that he, Emma and their little baby M will have to treasure for years to come.

Welcome to the World Baby M

Couple of weeks after our maternity session I got an email from Emma saying little baby M has entered this world and here we were couple of days later, meeting once again but this time to capture first portraits of this adorable little cherub.

Baby M was very calm and gentle during her newborn session, she slept nearly through the whole photoshoot.

Baby M's mummy and daddy requested neutral, natural colours such as cream, gray and brown and also mint and I was in heaven - neutral creams and browns with a little splash of colour is my jam! I love the beautiful soft creamy tones and styling such set ups is always a treat for me.

Baby M was such a little star and made my job so easy, being happy and content little one. Just look at that sweet pout, heavenly long eyelashes and adorable cheeks! She even blessed me with some cheeky smiles and pouts. In the photo below, you can see her little Mongolian spot which is a type of birth mark that some babies get and it usually disappears as the little one grows older. Emma mentioned that spot during the session and how much she loves it and so when it came to editing baby M's photos, I ensured to keep the little details intact for mum and dad to remember forever.

We finished up baby M's newborn session with some family portraits.

Thank you so much to this beautiful family for choosing me to capture their most precious first memories as a family of three. It has been such pleasure meeting this amazing, fun loving family and their newest adorable addition and I cannot wait to capture some more moment's of baby M's life as she's growing up.
