Sometimes the universe simply does its job and makes magic work. When my childhood friend got in touch with me and wanted to book me for her adorable baby boy's 1st birthday, I was absolutely over the moon. There was just one problem - we both lived in different countries, her residing in Northern Ireland and myself in England. Logistical nightmare!
But somehow we managed to meet up in YET ANOTHER country to celebrate her baby boy's 1st birthday with 1st birthday at home photoshoot. I was visiting Czech Republic, our birth country, to celebrate my dad's 50th birthday, and my friend Janie was visiting her family to celebrate Sami's 1st birthday with them. Perfect timing! We were however still facing one problem - where to take the photographs.
After messaging back and forth, we asked our mutual friend if we could photograph in her house. And luckily she said yes! So we had a date, we had a place and we had our flight tickets booked!
I have only met Sami once before when they came to visit me, and I couldn't believe my eyes how much he has grown and changed! He truly is a little man now, full of personality and definitely a charmer!
Janie wanted a family session with some cake smash portraits towards the end and chose a gorgeous sage green palette for the cake smash balloons, which looked amazing. We started with family portraits first. Very relaxed, focusing on Sami and his interaction with his parents.
When the family portraits were done, we brought the balloons and cake. Sami was unsure to begin with, trying the berries first, but soon he warmed up to the idea of a cake smash and started smashing the cake around.
Despite all the logistical issues, this session was magic. And I thank our lucky stars that we managed to get together to capture such sweet moments and this big milestone in Sami's life. 1st birthday is such a big event in little one's life and so the best way to document this special time is with a baby at home photoshoot.
